Spiritual Maturity

What are the signs of spiritual maturity? Is it by reading several chapters a day in the Bible….or spending an hour or more each day in prayer….going to church faithfully….paying tithe? These things are good and help develop spiritual maturity….but that doesn’t make you a mature Christian.

There are different ways to show our maturity, but I want to share just a few with you.

Obedience! Reading the Bible is important….but with reading the Bible we must be obedient. There are a lot of people who know the Bible cover to cover but are not obedient. Are you in total obedience to the Word?

The next way to check if you are mature in the faith is how you respond to turmoil. Are you quick to respond when something happens that you don’t like. By quick to respond I mean responding harshly…without thinking. I one time read something that said, “make sure brain is in gear before engaging the mouth.” Look at what Scripture says.

James 1:19 My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.

One thing to remember, when we respond quickly and without thinking we make a fool of ourselves and our witness for Christ is tarnished and we don’t show much maturity.

Finally, how do you respond when things don’t go your way? When the family doesn’t agree with you do you pout and respond in anger? How about at church? When something doesn’t go your way do you get mad? This is a big problem for many Christians in the church and causes problems in the church. Let me ask you this when what you planned or what you want to do doesn’t go your way do you get mad and sulk about it? Do you start complaining and griping about it? What many Christians fail to realize in God’s kingdom….it’s not about you or me…it’s about building God’s kingdom.

So, let me ask you, just talking about these three things can you consider yourself a mature Christian?
