Important things I Have Learned

This week I am going to talk about a few things I have learned in life.

--God is First and most important

According to the Bible, the greatest command is:

Mark 12:30 And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This is the first commandment.

Where do things rank in my life….God first….my family second…my ministry/job is third….followed by my hobbies.

--Do things God’s way

Psalm 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have a good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.

What does fearing the Lord mean? This fear includes, but is more than, respecting Him. Fearing Him means to give Him the place of glory, honor, reverence, thanksgiving, praise, and preeminence He deserves. This means He holds this position in our lives when we esteem Him and His desires over and above our own. We hate what He hates and love what He loves, trembling in His presence and at His Word. When you fear the Lord, you will want to do things His way….not because you have to but because you want to.

--Learn to trust God

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;

We worry about everything….finances….our family….our health….world problems. We will worry less when we take Him at His Word. So, what do we do to trust Him more?

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

In all your ways acknowledge Him. Meaning in all you do….do it the way He says to. Ask Him what He wants to do in every area of your life.

--Be faithful to attend church

I was taught about God in Sunday School, Royal Rangers, in Youth….in the church itself. I learned about who God is….how He loves me…what He expects from me. I learned what the Bible had to say. Without the foundation of being taught to attend church faithfully….I would have fallen apart.

--Develop a strong family life

What did we do to have a strong family? Debby and I attended our kids’ activities. Friday night was family night. We went out to eat and had either game night or watched a video….we simply did things together. Debby and I went on dates without the kids…we still go on dates.

Take these few words of wisdom and apply them to your life and see if things don’t begin to improve for you.
