The Fruit We Produce

There are two different types of fruit we produce – the fruit of the Spirit and the fruit of the flesh. Here is the fruit of sinful nature:

Galatians 5:19-21 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

The fruit of the sinful nature includes what we would say are big sins. But there also some listed that have to do with attitude. Hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions. Notice the scripture says those who live like this will not inherit heaven.

Here is the fruit that Christians should display:

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things, there is no law.

Wouldn’t you agree that this describes the personality of Jesus? This should also describe the Christian. As a Christian, our personality should become more like Jesus. The longer we know Him the more we should become like Him. The fruit of the Spirit is a developing process in us. We see this with Jesus’ disciples it was a growth process. Peter did not become the rock overnight; it happened over time. We don’t mature in the fruit of the Spirit immediately. But we should strive daily to live the fruit of the Spirit.

What is displayed most in your life? The fruit of the flesh or the fruit of the Spirit?
