Is Hell Real?

Is hell a real place? A lot of people do not think hell is real but, look at what Jesus says.

Yes, hell is a real place and Jesus even describes what hell is like.

Luke 16:19-24 "There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores. The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried. In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue because I am in agony in this fire.'"

The place in which the rich man went after he died was hell. Jesus describes hell as a place of torment; notice the rich man was in agony because of the fire. So, because Jesus goes into detail about hell I want to assure you hell is a real place.

You may say God would not send anyone to hell.

Matthew 10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Luke 12:5 But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him!

In these scriptures Jesus says don’t fear the one that can kill you but fear the one who can throw a person into hell. The one who has the power to throw the body in hell is God.

The Bible tells us that one day everyone will be judged by God. This judgment decides the fate of every person.

Rev. 20:11-15 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

In these scriptures, if you repent of your sins and turned your life over to Him your name is written in the Book of Life and you will spend eternity in heaven. If a person rejects God, the only place for them to go after they die is the lake of fire which is hell.

I want to assure you it’s not God’s will that any go to hell. He wants everyone to come to Him and go to heaven, but He gives us all a free will to choose to accept Him or not.

The decision is up to you and no one else. Will you accept Him or reject Him?
